When we are looking for the right person, sometimes it can feel like a never-ending stream of failures; and when we ask people for advice on how to improve your dating experience, they may give you advice that is hit or miss. With online dating becoming that much more popular, people are even more hungry for advice that actually works.
Maturedatinguk.com has compiled these four studies that can help you find that person you’ve been looking for. While these studies may not tell you how to win the heart of the cutie groping the avocados in the grocery store, they do help you understand some of the reasons why dating works and what you may want to change.
Choose Your Words Wisely
Words are incredibly powerful and what you say on your profile can strongly determine who (if anyone) sends you a message. Professor Khalid Khan from Queen Mary University in London conducted over 80 studies in order to learn how to word your online profile to gain the most attention. He learned that guys are more responsive to “fun,” “blonde,” and “cutie.” Women are a little refined as they respond to words that indicate the guy is more cultured and have a strong sense of intelligence, humour, and maybe even bravery.
Don’t Be Afraid to Say You Are Looking for Love
If you are hoping that you’re online endeavours result in a long lasting love, don’t be afraid to say so. Researchers studied approximately 1.2 million members and discovered that if you use the word “love” somewhere on your profile, you are more likely to actually find the love you seek. Now, this doesn’t necessarily say that you should say something as arbitrary as “I love camping,” but you know what we mean.
Don’t Get Discouraged by “Experts”
A popular dating website believes that by using algorithms to pair people with similar interests is the best way to find a match. However, some people have found little to no luck on this site. According to a study conducted by the Psychological Science in the Public Interest, the very notion that people can find their perfect matched based on an algorithm is hogwash.
Eli Finkel, the author of the study, believes that your odds aren’t any better than if you were to meet some random person on the street. So if this particular website who uses algorithms hasn’t worked for you, instead of giving up on love, perhaps you may just want to give a try to another one.
Females Who Use Dating Apps Are More Successful
In a study that was conducted in February 2015, 90 million users who use dating apps from all over the world, 62% of them are men. This means 55.8 million are men! That’s a whole lot of guys swiping! However, if you’re a female, it’s your world! You have many more men to choose from and you can be as selective as you want.
